I am honored to be elected as mayor of Decatur, Alabama. My journey to become mayor wasn’t easy and it could be a motivational story for others. Growing up as the youngest child of a single mother, who has always taught me that diligence, determination, and perseverance are the elements that build true character. I was taught at a young age that nothing in life is handed to you. One must work hard to accomplish his/her goals. I have always been a dreamer and I know I can make my dreams into reality. Housing is a basic need for humans because people need shelter for themselves and their children. The idea of affordable housing could help families with their tight budgets on health care and food. Expensive housing usually lead to foreclosure and eviction to families that are less fortune. In Decatur there is a huge mass of homeless families that are living on the streets because they can’t afford housing. To help make housing more affordable, I am going to get neighborhoods built that have decent and affordable housing. There will be more houses available that will be based off income so the prices won’t be outrageous to

This problem needs to be acknowledge because many people need jobs to take care of their families. I want to give people satisfying paying jobs so they won’t feel like they need to go to college to live a pleasant life. Most people cannot afford college and their only option is to get a well paying job. The first step i will take for improvement is raising the pay rate because people deserves to be paid more than minimum wage. I believe that people that work, especially at fast food restaurants need to get paid more than 7.25 a hour . I will try my best to get more places built in Decatur to make more jobs accessible. Bringing more jobs can impact Decatur in a positive way and expand the
