Human nature is finicky at best and tends to wax and wane when it comes to personal goals. Humans have been known as deceitful organisms that would often stop at nothing to achieve their selfish goals. In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, we enter into an introduction to characters such as Mr. Jay Gatsby who has intentionally turned his life into a façade, all in the hope to live a second life of his own as an individual he was never born as. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser introduces us to the fast food empire in which we see how many suppliers of fast food ingredients purposefully exploit the federal system to garner unwarranted rewards. Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby is the deception he goes to length to wrap around himself. When we become acquainted with Mr. Jay Gatsby we learn that there is more than seems to the eye and although he may not have meant to mean any harm. Jay Gatsby formerly known as Jay Gatz opens up to us through a given introduction into his background as one of an American dream, in which he has built himself up without regard for morals behind how he came by his wealth. Even then with the righteous intention of proclaiming his love for his one sweetheart he outs himself as a person he is not, which would come back to haunt him in unexpected ways. Deception regardless of intention is still deceit and therefore warrants no reason for anyone to respond positively to an event when one is willing to stoop to deception to reach an advantage. Though Mr. Gatz is formerly shown as an honest person working to mend his faults and improve upon the goal to capture his forgone love brings him the loss of trust that he had earned already but squandered. His love once introduced into the making of a man who was not originally meant for a life of wealth brings into conflict two characters whom although in love become separated when it comes to the means of achieving a personal goal dishonestly. As we travel through the world portrayed in Fast Food Nation we as consumers see the truth behind the marketing of our fast food and how ruthless and misleading business is. Many suppliers of fast food suppliers have taken to cost-effective measures to make sure the greatest profit with minimum spending. When they purposely misappropriate information such as workplace injury, they make sure they can keep getting government benefits. However, in doing so they present a danger to the companies themselves as well as the mass public who are the consumers. The government which led to such wide disregard of rules when it comes to massive companies then has to step in themselves to regulate order. The companies end up with hefty fines that would not have occurred had they taken measures to abide by the rules and not have been deceptive in order for their profit margins to rise. It should have been a matter of simply abiding by the rules of production given and with the massive millions they make there would not have been many problems with the procuring of money, but when they do otherwise and try to do so with the deception that is when they are open to
