The Declaration of Independence is what set up the Government for the United States. This document’s purpose was to portray to the people how things would be happening. There were 2 audiences that the documents were intended for. The first one was the King. It was an open letter stating why the colonies wanted to declare their independence and basically explaining why they wanted their freedom too. The next audience group was the colonies. Jefferson wanted to show the people what they were writing to the King. This informed the colonists that they were now free from the King and also why. Doing this did take some work to get all the colonies on board, but it eventually went through. The King then signed the American Prohibition Act on December
