One of the main purposes that the Declaration of Independence was written was to let it be known that America didn’t want anything to do with Great Britain. This document explain why it no longer wanted to be a part of Great Britain. This all happened during The Revolutionary war when America had already started cutting off most ties with England. The structure of The Declaration of Independence contains an introduction, list of grievances, and a formal statement of independence. Thomas Jefferson was chosen to draft this document. Popular Sovreighnty is the idea that citizens are the main source of authority in government. This government only exists because the people “allow” it to. With this being the case, it ensures that everyone's rights are protected. By America making the decision to no longer want to be a part of Great Britain, power was given to the people. “When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the political Bands which have connected them with another, Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” Natural rights are rights of “life, liberty, and estate” as described by John Locke. We are entitled to these rights because we are human. Due to these being individual rights, they are impossible to be taken away from anyone including the government.
