I believe the Declaration of Independence would still be relevant to the Founding Fathers today. A violation I believe they could still apply states, for imposing taxes on us without our consent. I believe they could apply this, but first let’s think about the sentence and its meaning. Imposing means to establish or to apply; force to prevail. Consent means to be of the same mind or opinion; agree. The sentence says, for imposing taxes without consent, it basically means forcing us to pay taxes without us agreeing. The reason I believe the Founding Fathers would still find this relevant today is because the king was forcing the people to pay taxes they didn’t agree on paying. Likewise, we are still made to pay taxes even after the Declaration …show more content…

The reasoning for these acts was basically to make the colonists pay more money for their necessities. Which is what we have today, you have to pay taxes for all of your goods, wants, and needs. My final reason is this; if you look back into history you will find the Magna Carta. It was written in 1215 and was a very important document; basically it protected the rights from the king. The Magna Carta ties into the Declaration of Independence in this reason; the king was not able to raise taxes without consulting the council. This is just the same thing as, for imposing taxes on us without our consent. They mean the same thing as each other; the only difference is they were written in different times. In conclusion, I do believe the Founding Fathers would find the Declaration relevant to the government today. My reasoning is this; we are still made to pay taxes which is one thing that has not changed. Another reason is the attempts to make the people pay taxes without making them revolt at the same time; an example of that happening in today’s society is people protesting, buying, or selling without reporting or paying taxes. My final reason is the ties between that and the Magna Carta, in America the government is almost the same as that in the Magna Carta. Those are the reasons I believe the Founding Fathers would still find the Declaration of Independence relevant
