Christians have maintained that God is three persons in one being as a means of understanding the nature of God.The declaration of the Trinity brings to my mind the Apostolic Council of approximately AD 50, that replaced the keeping of the Law with the Holy Spirit as a sign of God’s people. There is a strong biblical basis for the trinity found throughout the Bible. There are many instances of a confession of one God (Eph. 4:6), of Jesus as Lord (1 Cor. 12:3) and the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 3:17). The God of the Old Testament is the same God in the New Testament and from that same God came Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. From God’s choosing and redeeming of Israel in the Old Testament to God’s revelation in Jesus Christ and the receiving of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. The trinity is connected and deeply intertwined. One cannot have any of the three without also having the other two. The three are connected their great love. God revealed God’s self in Jesus Christ and sent the Holy Spirit of the same loving God to be with God’s people. The purpose of the “technical descriptions in classical trinitarian doctrine” is to expand understanding of the nature of God. The trinity of God helps us to understand the love of God and how God is at work today. The trinity explains that God, the Son and the Spirit are equal and of the same being in that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God for salvation to all who believe (Rom.1:16) and that if the Spirit of him who raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, that he will also give life to you through his Spirit. (Romans 8:11) I think that the technicalities in this doctrine serve to attempt to uncover more of the mystery of God and our salvation through Christ, not that this mystery can ever be fully
