Growing to become friends with a past enemy is always difficult. Anyone could probably relate to what Ali, the main character in Deep and Dark and Dangerous by: Mary Downing Hahn is going through if they have tried that, but somehow Ali manages to pull it off, even though her enemy is rude, obnoxious, and best friends with her cousin, who she has to babysit the whole summer! Throughout the novel, Ali learns to like Sissy and befriend her by giving her something she always wanted and spending more time with her. The first way Ali grows to like Sissy is by spending more time with her. Since Sissy is always showing up Ali is forced to spend more time with her. Although Ali is un-happy about it, she eventually grows to like Sissy, and when it is time for Sissy to leave, she feels “an unexpected twinge of sadness” (158). Then Ali quotes “I was getting used to having Sissy around. Now that I knew so much about her, it was easier to put up with her sadness and anger”(158) This reveals that spending more time with Sissy actually shifted Alis feelings toward Sissy. Ali was getting used to having her around, and when …show more content…
Sissy saw Ali and Emma sympathize for a bird that had died and was jealous because she was a ghost, and that was what she had always wanted. Sissy says to Ali “ ‘I want to be buried in the graveyard where the angel is. Is that too much to ask?’ ‘Of course not, You should be there, it’s where you belong’’ (171). This shows that Sissy really wants a burial because she is so lonely. Ali is sorry for her and, honestly a bit frightened of her, but still plans a burial, even though she realizes will miss Sissy’s company, but she knows it is what Sissy has always desired most. In return, sissy gives Emma the doll she always wanted which makes Ali happy because she wants emma to be happy. This gesture of giving a proper burial helps them develop a steady
Alex is a tall Canadian with blond hair and blue eyes from the book Forbidden City who I will be analyzing. First, Alex is very curious about history and wars. Some proof of this is on page 4, where he says, “I had model airplanes hanging on threads from my bedroom ceiling. Three tanks guarded my dresser. An armoured personnel carrier defended my desk.”
I give Michael Vey Battle of the Ampere 5 out of 5 stars because it was funny, descriptive, and emotional. Michael is on his own in the jungle with Jaime. Michael has to save his friends from the Peruvian army before they stand trial for terrorism, and could possibly get charged with the death penalty. Hatch and his electric children have taken over the ES Ampere (the Elgen’s headquarters) and now with full control of the Elgen fleet, Hatch goes to Peru to get his army together and starts putting his plan in motion for global domination. Michael and his friends have to stop Hatch, but Hatch already knows they are coming.
When reading this passage I had to look up the word, "Lethal" which means "sufficient to cause death", I also had to look up the word "uttering" that means " make a sound with ones voice". This quote makes me feel very sad and mad because she is trying to help the Jews by warning them and they are beating her and gagging her, That makes me disgusted. I think people didn't believe her because it was pitch black at the time and no one saw anything while she was screaming fire, fire. That is a warning for the Jews to save themselves and try to escape while they can. It is very obvious that the people were scared because they kept telling them to "make her shut up".
She knows Abuelita’s grey eye represents caring and purpose of gardening with Abuelita. To the narrator’s misfortune Abuelita is very ill. She dies, the young protagonist prepares Abuella’s lifeless body, she laments on “sob emerging” as she grieves “the misery of feeling half born”, and “the sobs crippling into sadness are relief” (37). The narrator is saddened, she believes that her purpose was to be with Abuelita and when Abuelita died half of her purpose died with her grandmother.
The quote “Circumstances are beyond the control of man but his conduct is within his own power” means that individuals cannot control what situations occur in their life but they can control how they handle and react to the situation. In the novel Lyddie, Lyddie is the young thirteen-year-old girl that takes on the responsibility of the adult role in her family and life. As the adult, Lyddie is confronted with many difficult situations in her life that the average adolescent does not have to face. For example, Judah brings Rachel to Lyddie.
In the beginning of, To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout is very small ant very knowledgeable about things Scout doesn’t even pay attention to what’s happening in Maycomb county. She doesn’t know that practically everyone hates each other. “When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness’ sake. But don’t make a production of it. Children are children, but they can spot an evasion quicker than adults, and evasion simply muddles ‘em” (Lee 9).
In the novel Night, Idek shows evil in every way. Idek beats on Eli’s father countless times once to try to get Eli’s gold crown from his mouth. When he wasn’t beating on one of the prisoners he was taking advantage of a young girl at the camp. We see no sign of family in Idek’s life but plenty of evil outbreaks. Even though Idek is also Jewish just like all the other members of the camps and he too treats the prisoners like the German officers would or even worse.
Sal already knew her mom had died, but she didn’t want to believe it. She never let herself believe that her mom has passed away. Sal’s mom died when she was going to Lewiston, Idaho. She was in a bus, and the bus tipped over killing everyone except one person, and that person wasn't Sal’s mom. Sal loves her mom and doesn’t want to think she is dead.
Inhumane In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, the theme man's inhumanity man relates to cruelty by calling them names, treating them horribly, and making them look the same. Even the Jews in the same barracks fight each other for food, and some people suffocate because they are laying on top of each other. In this quote “Faster you swine”(Wiesel 91). This quote shows the reader how the Nazis treated the Jews when they are marching to Gleiwitz.
A Long Way Gone is an autobiography that shows his younger days and the transition of him turning into a child solider. In the story the military uses tactics to manipulate the boys such as anger, drugs, and fear to transform the boys into being child soldiers. The military use anger to manipulate the boys by making the boys blame the rebels for everything “ Visualize the banana tree as the enemy, the rebels who killed your parent your family and those who are responsible for everything that happened to you” (112). With all the built up anger that the boys have it was easy for them to manipulate them because with the loss of their family and friends they already hate the rebels and having them stabbing the banana tree was a way for them to
You know in Sudan the majority of children die before reaching 5 years old, that's because of all the war lack of water and diseases that are in Sudan. It's also why there are so many refugees trying to leave Sudan. Salva also encountered many deaths including his siblings and people he was walking with while he was trying to flee Sudan. The novel a long walk to water based on a true story by linda sue park, shows how the main character, salva dut needs to flee sudan to get to safety.
Running though different territories and terrain, Salva was always carrying pain along with him, always collecting more everywhere he went, but he was still able to survive, whether it be physical or mental pain. A Long Walk to Water is a novel that is based on a true story by Linda Sue Park. The story is about a lot of the treacheries Salva, the main character, had gone through during the second Sudanese war. With people neglecting him, Salva grew stronger as he took in their doubt and negative thoughts about him; he grew stronger for his deceased uncle and friend to prove the doubters wrong. The three survival factors that made survival possible for Salva were his willingness to carry on with his life, being able to stay mobile, and being
FDR, a former President of the United States, once said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. This famous quote was used in a time of distress among the citizens. The people of the United States were out of control because they didn’t know what was happening or how bad it was. Roosevelt satisfied the people of his country by telling them that the only thing they had to worry about was the fear that they make up themselves. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about an abundance of schoolboys who get in a plane crash and get stuck on an island with no adults.
A LONG WALK TO WATER Individuals adapt in challenging environments by taking small steps to accomplish big tasks, learning new skills by themselves or by others , and appreciating good positive things in harsh situations. The author demonstrates this when they he/she shows the characters emotions and action that revolve around the idea of adaptation. Many people such as Salva and Nya accomplished many things by using resources around their current situation. The novel “A Long Walk to Water” and article “Time Trip: Sudan’s Civil War” shows how when people are put in harsh circumstances any available resources are frugally used.
She is also visiting her mother’s grave in, what is assumed to be, complete solitude. There are no mentions of others with her or other people present. It just the narrator and the ants. It seems everyone else has moved on, especially since the graveyard is described as being very unkept with “weeds and grass grown up all around” (9). Only the narrator and the ants visit her mother now.
