When we write, we are writing from our hearts, and only we can truly understand what our hearts are trying to tell us. Writing for others may be okay, but to the person you are writing for, it would feel like they are missing something in your piece. That missing feeling can only be filled if they were the ones writing the piece in the first place. Just like Forrester told Jamal — never to think, just type. This should apply to all writers because the only writing that truly counts, are the writings we wrote with full devotion.
To be able to write down anything I have to be in a place where I feel comfortable expressing my ideas. As a writer I will overthink everything I say in my writing, whether it sounds stupid or sophisticated, but I have to be careful with what I want to do because I need to focus on getting the message
Also, I think it’s going to be interesting to write about drugs, depression, youth, and being unconfident. I’m really excited to start writing the essay. Also, I think this book can be educational and there is a lot we can take and/or relate from the book. The writing done in school or in a work place is different from how Quindlen talks about. In school you will most likely be asked to write essays on topics approved by your instructor. The goal in writing is to be able to clearly get your message onto paper and have the reader understand it in a certain way while also being unique and concise. I oftentimes found myself lost before even starting. Throughout my time in English 1010 I have noticed that my writing style has changed, I no longer walk into writing with no direction but rather have taken the techniques and strategies I was taught and used them to develop my own process and a sort of blueprint that I use to make sure that I am writing to the correct people as well as making sure that the message get across clearly. When it comes to writing a paper, letter, thank you card, etc., it is difficult for me. The reasons why writing is hard for me is because, a lot of times when I write I get distracted by, other people, thinking about something else on my mind, instead of what I am writing, finishing up my chores, etc. Also, when I write my grammar is incorrect, for example, pronoun errors. In other words, “Everybody don’t care if they hate it or not.” That was wrong, but the correct way to write it is, “Everybody don’t care if he or she hates it or not.”
Good writing stems from a strong foundation of reading skills. I remember sitting in the library of Griswold Elementary School listening to the librarian Mrs. Church telling us how if we are good readers we are good writers. As the group of eager little children that we were, writing was something that we loved to do and participated in often, so a chance of becoming better at it just made us want to read more. In this same library, the PTO held the annual Scholastic Book Fair, this event allowed kids to browse a selection of books and develop a understanding of the personal book genre that they enjoy. As children, you love to read and are encouraged to do so by your parents, friends and teachers.
Good writing is clear, structured, and resourceful. Regardless of the genre of writing, or the audience receiving the message, It’s important that the message can be conveyed to them accurately, this is hard to do when we can’t agree on a way of determining this, or when we disregard the necessity to have acceptable or unacceptable view of writing, within reason of course. Writing should also be structured, without structure there’s nothing that says a writer can’t abruptly alter the format they’re writing in and describe unrelated, and unimportant information.
