Beauty: One Definition Does Not Fit All Society’s definition of beauty is skewed by airbrushing techniques and digital technologies. It is not legitimate and it should not be the accepted version of what beauty is actually about. The denotative definition of beauty is: the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction in the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, meaningful designs, or something else. South Korean women believe a face with more volume is more popular today and having one will give you good fortune.
In Iran, because of the dress code in the country, women want what can show to look satisfactory. The only facial features that show are their eyebrows, eyes, and their nose. Their eyebrows are to be perfectly threaded, their eyes kohl-lined, and an impeccable nose. Bandages around the nose are worn with pride after they go through with a nose job. Over 70,000 people in the last year have had surgery on their nose because they want it to be impressive.
New Zealand has a beauty standard that may interest some people. The women of New Zealand decorate their faces with swirling blue tattoos. They put tattoos around their lips and full tattoos on their chins. This practice came from their ancestors and is a sign of wealth. A woman's insecurities and imperfections are pointed out at every turn so they have become obsessed with trying to fix and hide them which should not be. They are judged invariably by people who they may or may not know when all that matters is the inside. Beauty on the inside shows on the outside. Women try to change themselves because of the kind of world we live in, which leads to not being yourself. Beauty is something women have to claim. When women feel good about themselves, they are beautiful, to not only them, but to others around them.
But nowadays, the world is changing the beauty concepts that have gone on for so long. Concepts such as thin is in, makeup is a must, tanning, blue eyed and blonde, shaved legs, nose jobs, and even plastic surgeries are now frowned upon.
