Defining A Generation What is defining a Generation? Should it by classified or clarified by using the different groups categories such as the baby boomers, generation x or the millennial. Do you take into consideration the historical events or social changes for a group of people born around the same age, born during a certain time (which may include important historical or social life changing event?) If not using time of one’s birth would you consider life alternating events or hardships which one is raised that contributed to having good work ethics, instilling family values certain beliefs or traditions that may affect your way of life in some form or fashion. We wanted have a similar but more fulfilling life than our grandparents and parent’s aka the Baby Boomer Generation expanding on all the teaching they feed into us and make our own way in society. For a small majority born and raised around small towns / communities you respected your elders because here is where you learn for some family history or even the history of the place you grew up in to include the people to the sports teams. With football as a catalyst it becomes the drive to make the same things as they are as generation of greats that have come before. In the Texas , I will use the great game of football. Like baseball is America’s pastime the same for football in Texas especially high school football. People live, re-live and breathe this sport like no other. Again, defining a generation? with Texas football it starts with the place (town or city), the football team, and family. Now if your team has a winning tradition consisting of district championship, going into the playoffs and playing for or winning a state title this is where the history or generation begin to take shape. As you grow up in this tradition you watch and follow the team to every game and if you have any family members playing all you can think about is being like them one
