Media shows that happiness is ones accomplishments and possessions. What a person has to show for their life supposedly should bring them happiness. Opposed to how the culture defines happiness, it is not in possessions of accomplishments. Happiness is a mindset that one most choose. One can be happy by looking past the difficult, and deciding to see the positive. Happiness is a state of well-being and positive outlook; one can be happy without materialistic possessions and accomplishments. Or buying a new wardrobe will make them fit in, and look prettier and result in a happy person. Because happiness is a universal concept everyone craves it is an excellent source of marketing. The world does a good job of marketing and advertising happiness as something that is bought, making people believe that happiness is all in what they have. Following this road to happiness that is marketed in our everyday lives, leads to confused and upset people. Once people realize that happiness cannot be bought they don’t know where to find happiness. Many people become depressed because they say that they no longer know how to be happy anymore, they just give up. Letting depression take control because of a lack of happiness and self-esteem. Happiness cannot be derived from what money can buy. As defined earlier, happiness is a state of well-being and positive outlook.
