While working Americans still hold on to the hope of the American Dream, individuals from other countries often move to the United States with the hope that they too may have a piece of the pie. Despite the novelty and allure of the American Dream, it is nothing more than false hope.
The American dream is a dream of land in which life should be better and richer for everyone. It’s a land where people succeed to accomplish their ambition of a better life. Most of the people have a different way of defining this American Dream. Unfortunately, for some, it could mean wealth,status,or power whereas for others it could mean companionship, good morals,love,and amity. According to our Declaration of Independence, it entitles every man and woman the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The American dream is having equality, a voice to be heard and stability in one’s life. However, the American Dream is just that, a dream. It cannot be attained because of the power of our government, the ignorant minds of others and the constant want for more. What should be trivial factors in life, such as: race, gender, social class, wealth, etc., all have a significant effect on the impractical American dream. the “TED Talks” video proves this.
But coming to America made me receive a higher level of education because many opportunities were ahead of me since everyone is given equal opportunities in America. In high school, taking those AP classes helped me understand the college level education. Holy Family is known for their Nursing program. Many students attend Holy Family dreaming of graduating with a good GPA and hoping to be prepared for their future jobs and goals. In the same article they say that “The growth in returns to college has generated a predictable response: as the education earnings gap increased, a larger fraction of high school graduates went on to college” (583).

My American Dream has always been driven by success. Employment/ career, Family and community success to be more specific. The advancement of myself ,my family, and my community has always been a priority. Being that I am a Black American born in the United States my struggle to obtain the American Dream differs from most people.
