To start off, what is the definition of the American Dream? There is no right or wrong answer. In my opinion, the American Dream is whatever you would consider a “perfect life”. It could be a life full of flowers, pets, food, money, people that you love, or a life that you have had planned since your younger days. Your definition of the American Dream can differ from somebody else’s definition of the American Dream, that is what makes the American Dream so unique. Although the American Dream is possible, it is about taking a closer look at the obstacle to obtain. It reveals that the American Dream is not attainable for everyone.

Baby boomers where very conservative and they tried to make the best but cheapest decision. Generation X and Generation Y had different consumption habits. Nowadays people around my age are very materialistic. We want to have the newest clothes, the hottest designer, the flashiest chains, and grills. We also want the best Jordan’s or whatever the hottest shoe out is. Back in the day people didn’t care about what people thought about what they wore. If they were matching and wasn’t looking all crazy it didn’t matter. In all honesty families did not have as much money as families do now. The technology was nowhere near as advanced as is today. Even if people wanted the things we have today it would take months at a time to get it done and it would take even longer because it’ll take a while to ship it. “In fact, 38% of millennials report that travel is a part of their American Dream, while only 28% include retirement. Millennials also tend to see self-employment as part of the American Dream – 26%, versus 16% of Boomers” (Investopedia). This is an example on how everyone has a different opinion, and a different dream. Some people want to retire and relax with their family. And some people want to continue to work and travel the world when they have free time. Another example is self-employment, which is a very broad topic. A lot of people believe they want to be their own boss when they start their career. But it takes a lot of hard work unless you’re doing something
