In the first stave of Charles Dickens’ story, A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge didn’t have much enthusiasm for Christmas. He didn't like people mentioning it and curse the ones who did. He found no reason to be merry and celebrate. But, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, and the three spirits of Christmas, Scrooge becomes a changed man. Happiness is an emotion, which makes it subjective, so it is difficult to have a definite meaning for the word. Is happiness just the absence of a negative feeling or is it the feeling of fulfillment and joy? Depending on the person, the answer varies and different activities make different types of people happy. Furthermore, each individual is willing to sacrifice certain materials to bring them joy. Nevertheless, in general, as a society, people sacrifice certain things, like money and time, in order to “make them happy.”

Before choosing criminal justice as my major, I wanted to be an art major. Moreover, I have always been interested in politics and political movements that involved civil rights and human rights.
