What marks a true friendship? Sacrificial love. True friendship only comes when both people involved, truly display love toward one another. However, in countless cases today, people think that love simply means that two have special feelings toward each other. Yet, love displays itself, not through feelings, but through acts of selflessness, prompted by a desire to benefit the other. Unfortunately, the culture’s misconception of love has led to numerous broken relationships, for it focuses on temporary feelings instead of heartfelt, serving, and others centered love. True friendship occurs when both parties out of love, give of themselves to benefit the other, unfortunately though, the culture has twisted the meaning of love saying that love comes through feelings and not actions. Thus, in numerous relationships today, sacrificial love has disappeared, leaving an innumerable amount of relationships to wither on the vine. For example, more than fifty percent of all marriages in the United States of America result in divorce. A great amount of couples, at the beginning of a marriage, have warm feelings towards each other, but often these f never give birth to genuine love. Therefore, when these feelings have burnt out, or the couple runs into hard times, the relationship crumbles as a consequence of their lack of living love.
