If you look up the definition of work in Webster’s dictionary you find that work is: a job or activity that you do regularly especially to earn money. But the definition of job in the Webster’s dictionary is: the work that a person does regularly to earn money; a duty, task, or function that someone or something has; something that requires very great effort. While that is what anyone would generally tell you the definition of work is, I believe it goes beyond that definition and has far more meaning than to earn money. Work is more than a way to earn money or having a job; it is a way of life. You cannot just simply say that you have a job you have to work to have a job. That means you must work to: get a job, keep a job, and do your job correctly. A job requires a lot out of a person both physically and mentally. I have patients who are unhappy because: they cannot see, that they had to wait too long to see the doctor, their glasses are taking too long to come in to the office so they can pick them up. But what the patients do not see it that I am doing my very best, even if that requires no leaving the office till 6 at night when we close at 4, that I did not get the lunch break, also that while I am working there I am also a full-time student in college. While all these things can make me question my sanity at times I am so glad that I do have a job and work while I go to college. It has taught me so many more things than I ever thought was possible, even on the days I want to quit.
