The English language has many words with complex and similar meanings. The word independence is often correlated with freedom. Freedom and independence are usually mistaken for the same thing; however, the words are defined differently. Now and then it can get befuddling and individuals think that it is difficult to choose with words to use concerning “independence” and “freedom”. Independence gives a sentiment of mindfulness and need, while freedom broadens self-expression and imagination. Also freedom is attainable without being in the state of independence. In a sense, Independence is a little more than freedom. When someone is independent they are not subject to control or assistance of others, it’s not an option; for lack of better words, the person can only do things and make decisions on their own. The thirteen colonies separating from Britain is an example of independence, hence the name declaration of independence. “…and that as free independent states that they have full power to levy war and conclude peace, contract alliances, established commerce and to do all other acts and things which independent states may of right do”(ushistory.org).This quote explains that states are self-governing and have ceased to rely on Britain to make decisions and provide for them.
