1. What does health policy mean to you and does it impact your daily practice? Health care policy evokes has a negative condensation to me. It evokes this reaction because I am personally opposed to the government being involved in the health care delivery system any level. In my practice I have a seen a dramatic decrease in the number of elective surgeries after the implementation of the Affordable Care Act due to increased copayments.

At my hospital, we are frequently reminded that we are "captain" of our patient's care, as most coordination of care is done through the nurse. Countless times there are many patients who need extensive and delicate care at the same time, so how can one individual take care of everything? This model is used to direct nurses to participate in unit-based decision making that allow nurses to demonstrate accountability and ownership for their practices. Reflection Qualities that make an effective nursing leader are the same qualities that many other nursing staff and general public possess.
