My ambition to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University commenced in my teenage years, when I first came to London and visited the dentist. The professional approach coupled with a kind and compassionate nature and all of the different instruments and scientific technology the Dental Hygienist and Therapist used fascinated me. I am currently studying Dental Nursing at Teesside University. This course involves providing correct support to the dentist at the chair side, reassuring and supporting patients, maintaining a gold standard clinical environment, charting, dental anatomy and physiology. As a freshman at Dixie State University, I’ll be studying to get my bachelors degree in dental hygiene. I want to return back home, in Chuuk and open a dental business in order to help out my family and youth in the area. However, these types of services are available to them, but they have poor services and they are inexperienced. Every kid wants to grow up and help their families out and make them proud. As majoring in dental hygiene, it is a big thing for me and my family.

Dental disease is a preventable disease, but goes untreated or steps toward prevention are not taken because the disease affects low-income families (CDC 2017). How should this disease be prevented and what can policy makers do? The U.S. health care system had policy dealing with public education for oral care, but dental care is still not a priority. The failure of this attempt could be caused by the significance that oral care play in people’s lives.
