In high school I have participated in a variety of extracurricular activities. As a freshmen I was a member of marching band. I was treasure and then secretary of the band council. Also, I was tuba section leader and low brass super section leader. As a sophomore I was secretary of SASA, “Students Against Substance Abuse,” and president my junior year.
Of my many volunteer and paid extra-curricular activities, the most important to me is the National Art Honor Society, which extends artistic activities to my community. We organize two school events: the Festival of Trees and the Talent Competition. The Festival of Trees is an event when every school club can choose to donate and decorate a tree that we set up. All of the money raised goes to an organization of our choice. For the last 4 years, we have donated to Street Grace, which benefits the fight against human trafficking, especially in the Metro Atlanta area.
I can make highlight tapes throughout my high school and college years(E3). Don 't get too high on your highs and don 't get to low on your lows, just be prepared to work your best. It has been found that youth with positive role models have greater self-esteem. I can give back to my community by being a partner in the play 60 campaign. I can set up free camps and talk to kids about their dream(E1).
However, I have also gained many life experiences that some many never have, I have participated in the Ross County Queens’ Contest, went to 4-H camps during the summer, and have had the opportunity to raise and show hogs at the county fair. I ended up spearheading my own projects that would affect Hoonah City Schools at a systemic level, such as creating living documents of available scholarships for students and a comprehensive list of post-secondary schools (trade, vocational, beauty) in Alaska. I was also given administrator access to the school's website to edit in order to streamline accessibility and add resources for students, staff, and the community. Currently, I am working on adding resources for the Special Education Department for the school. My mentor for this project was Ms. Sarah Geerling. Ms. Geerling is currently my H Journalism II/ Yearbook advisor. She teaches College Prep English, Yearbook, Newspaper and she is also the adviser for the Fandom Freaks club. Ms. Geerling being so involved in her job; she was asked if she had any time for herself. As a member of Key Club I was a strong contributor to the volunteer opportunities that arose, (i.e. Beach Cleanup, Trick or Treat for UNICEF). In my third year of high school, I became the secretary of the School Improvement Committee. As the secretary, I was responsible for making sure all of the meetings ran smoothly and were recorded for future use. Along with these club activities, I have volunteered for many of the teachers and staff in the school. Such activities included filing, running papers to classrooms, and helping out during school activities.
In all of my Highschool career, I have developed numerous skills whether it be from being head of groups, able to speak in big crowds, and making sure that everyone understood their positions. Starting eighth grade, I had begun my journey by being a part of the Junior National Honor Society and becoming our classes representative, or as others say “Junior High valedictorian”. At this point in my life, I was able to realize that I demonstrated all the characteristics that a leader needed, and I was viewed to students and teachers as a mentor. After I had been promoted to High School, I was ambitious and challenged myself to be a part of Louder Than A Bomb poetry group. Freshman year was the Louder Than A Bombs first year at our High School which caused that year to be the group's building block.
As an active member in both my school and community I have taken part in many extracurricular activities and received many honors. I find it to be very important to live my life in a way that I am able to reach my fullest potential while giving back to others at the same time. Outside of school I participate in numerous activities. In the year of 2003, I began to take piano lessons. I pursued this and eventually had the opportunity to play in a church band.
Through the experience of working as youth leader for freshman connection I have grown as a better leader. To help incoming freshman was incredible experience for me. I joined freshman connection to serve school and defiantly to get knowledge and team building skills out of it, so that it can help me make my college experience better. I think I have achieved all the goals that I wanted to through working as youth leader. Additionally, not only that but also to work on community service project on bullying has really allowed me to serve as teacher helper.

From contesting for this position to getting elected and working for betterment of my house group, I gained a lot of experience and self-confidence and became more responsible. Being a vice captain, I played an important role in addressing and motivating students, advising and helping them, and earning points for my group by participating in many competitions alone or in a team. I also served as the student voice of the school to a variety of external and internal constituents. The student council served as a bridge between the students and the school heads and administration.
Motivation, perception and team work are all vital aspects of a functioning group no matter how big or small. Without these contributions, we cannot achieve the goals. Not only did I learn more about how it is to work in groups, but I also learned something about myself. In the end, the experiences I had, both with the group and individually, was worth it. It prepared me not only in college, but in my future career as well.
Surviving in High School “The journey doesn’t start at the beginning, begins at the end.” School is one of the most memorable moments you will experience in your life, are those moments when you find a second family in your life called “classmates”, they start being strangers to classmates, classmates to friends and friends to brothers and sisters, you spent every single day of your life for more or less 2 years of your life that you start to know them more than anybody. I study in Colegio De La Salle in Panama City, Panama. My years in De La Salle are priceless, because it’s the place where I grew up as a student and the most importan as an Human being. During my time in De La Salle I found “Ma Squad” that’s how we call our group back in Panama, where we experience and pass so many things together.
