Describe The Relationship Between Suzy And Leah By Jane Yolen

The article “Suzy and Leah” is written by Jane Yolen. The relationship between Suzy and Leah starts out pretty rough. Suzy wants to be helpful and give the refugees some snacks. Leah feels as though they are being treated like animals, and won’t take anything from Suzy. They meet each other in the camp. The camp where all refugees in America are staying. They begin to understand each other by the end though. Suzy, an American girl trying to help out the refugees. Suzy is just trying to give Leah some food, but Leah won’t accept. She doesn’t understand. Why wouldn’t she want some food? All Suzy was trying to do is help her out. Leah just doesn’t want food because she feels that they are treating them like animals. At school, the next day, the refugees are partnered up with one of Americans. What are the chances? Leah and Suzy are partnered up. Suzy tries to keep an open mind about it, but Leah is so stuck up. She decides to be stuck up like her. They both hate each other for a while. Until… Leah is in the hospital. Suzy reads her diary after Suzy’s mom told her about what was actually happening

“Today came another girl. A girl with yellow hair and a false smile.” Suzy doesn’t start hating Leah until she realizes how snobby she is. “Gee, she’s a prickly porcupine. They both start hating each other so the story is pretty boring. It’s the same thing every day. They go to school, and then they go home or to the camp. Until… Leah is in the hospital. Suzy feels bad because of the way she dealt with the whole situation. “I did a terrible thing today. I read Leah’s diary. I’d kill anyone who did that to me.”She didn’t realize how much Leah had gone through and decides to do something about it. She’s determined to try and create a good relationship with Leah from that day forward. After Leah wakes up she Suzy lets her read the book.
