I have been to many fairs throughout my life, but this day was something special. It was during the month of May, probably my very last year of elementary school. The students who made an advanced grade on the tests at the end of the year got to go to the fair and miss a day of school. My best friend, Heather, and I were two of the lucky ones. So, we all boarded a bus, and headed off to the annual Jackson fair. Going to this fair with my best friend quickly became one of the best days of my life. The bus ride was horrible. The bus was practically melting from the heat outside, and it smelled strongly of an overused gym. The teachers all gathered near the front to sit, typing away on their phones and silently ignoring the students the whole trip. The kids around us were quite the opposite. They were loud and threw candy wrappers and soda cans at people. With my luck, of course, I got hit by a can that wasn’t completely empty. I was drenched in the sticky, brown drink and, at that time, I was ready to go home and forget those obnoxious people. Even the bus driver seemed a bit off. He had not said a word the entire trip, and he rarely moved. Not even his eyes would move. However, all the chaos was forgotten as we arrived at the fairgrounds.
