The interview was done with a middle-aged Australian female tourist. She visited Disneyland with her husband and children. She and her family speaks English as their mother tongue (lines 5-6). That following are some of the points that I found interesting and related to the construction of Disneyland as a tourist site. When the interviewee was asked about the use of language according to her observation, surprisingly, she pointed out Indian and Filipino (lines 18 and 20), instead of just Cantonese, Mandarin and English, which are my expected from her because these three languages are most commonly seen and heard in Disneyland. The interviewee had a very deep impression on the word “magical” and she agreed that the signs and messages displayed have the word “magical” repeatedly used, which created a sense of fantasy (lines 239-245; 276-283). The major themes of Disneyland are exactly magical and fantasy. The frequent use of “magical” no matter in displays or announcements serves to strengthen the theme and remind the tourists that they are in the Disney – the world full of happiness, fun and magic. Moreover, after I showed the picture taken in the space mountain ride concerning the use of “pilots” instead of “passengers” (line 284), the interviewee mentioned that this helps passengers get into the story and become absorbed in the atmosphere (line 295). These use of words leads to the perception of the tourists they are all Disney characters living in the world of fantasy, creating at authentic experience for them in the magical world. This has successfully led to the affection of both adults and children, as stated by the interviewee (lines 198-206). People, regardless of their age, might get immersed and fond with the strong sense of fantasy constructed because of the use of words by Disneyland and thus Disneyland Hong Kong is beloved and becoming a popular tourist site.
