High school is said to be the best four years of one’s life. Throughout these four years, relationships are built, and everlasting memories are formed. One of the most important aspects of high school is being involved. Participating in organizations offers students the opportunity to interact with various people present at the school who share a common interest. Berwick High School offers its students the chance to participate in several diverse activities, ensuring that every child can be involved in a club or sport. The clubs are managed by faculty members who sacrifice their free time to benefit the participants. The athletic department consists of teacher-coaches and the athletic director. These triumphs might be broadcasted in the morning, posted on the school’s webpage, or showcased throughout the school in the form of a trophy or plaque. The primary sports, such as football, receive incessant announcements over the intercom of when games are scheduled, how they performed, and who excelled in the event. The school administration further exhibits favoritism to the preeminent sports by attending most, if not all, home games and countless away games. Throughout my four years of participating on both the swim and tennis teams, Berwick High’s past and present administration attended, at most, five out of at least one hundred matches and meets. This past swim season, I️ broke the school record in the 100-meter breaststroke; for this triumph, I️ received no recognition or even a simple “congratulations” from the school. The 2017 swim season also brought another monumental victory; the boys swim team placed first in the Bayou District League for the first time in school history. For this outstanding performance, the school made a meager morning announcement simply stating that we prevailed. Regardless of the football team's Friday night performance, score updates and stats about the game's main contributors are announced every morning after the return from the weekend. Other sports, such as cross country and golf, are rarely, if ever, mentioned. Recognition is a particularly important part of all sports. All athletics should be treated with equality, but instead, the contrary exists at Berwick
