The Art Institute of Chicago There are so many places in Chicago to see art and architecture. So, it was very hard to choose where to go exactly. What I ended up deciding was, we were going to walk around until we found a museum to go into. This is how we ended up at The Art Institute of Chicago. I have never actually been in an art museum before so this was a little out of my comfort zone because of how awkwardly quiet it was, but nonetheless it was for homework (and I had to pay to get in) so I was going to try it out. When I finally got to the art gallery I found myself like quickly moving to the art to look at it. I was thrilled to see all of this art. I think what made me the most excited about looking at the new paintings was because of the skills we learned in class. What I mean by that was how we analyzed the pictures to be able to see more than what is on the surface of the picture. I was looking at the pictures analyzing the details of the paintings and found myself asking questions, like “why did this artist paint this,” “what inspires artists to paint certain pieces.” Not only was I using the skills I learned in class, I saw some of the paintings that we had gone over in class and I was able to tell the person I was with what else you can see in the picture. I was able to experience more than just paintings, I saw contemporary art as well. This was “art” was bizarre to me, because there was a block of wood, and the title of it was “Wood.” After going in there I went home determined to become a ‘contemporary’ artist. Next, we made our way to the architecture room.
