Desmond Doss On a regular day at Aqua, a man walks in with a fancy suit and orders a medium rare filet while on his phone playing games. Then another man walks in with a white tee looking for a fight with the man in the suit. When the guy in the white tee starts heading over to the other person the 16 year old worker notices that he is about to fight and jumps into the middle and breaks the fight up. Because of this, the worker shows peace by breaking up the fight even though he clearly isn’t stronger than them and is still really young. One person who is peaceful is Desmond Doss. The first way he did this was when, “He was an unarmed Army medic saved the lives of dozens of fellow soldiers under fire on Okinawa in World War II” (Goldstein). This shows peace because he could have left these soldiers to die but instead he stayed with them to help save them all while not having a gun. Desmond’s goal was that he wanted to help people out and bring some peace out of all this hatred. Another fact is, “Private Doss remained with the wounded, and, according to his Medal of Honor citation, he refused to seek cover, carrying them, one by one, in the face of enemy fire. He lowered each man on a rope-supported litter he had devised, using double bowline knots he had learned as a youngster and tying the makeshift litter to a tree stump serving as an anchor. Every wounded man was lowered to a safe spot 35 feet below the ridgetop, and then Private Doss came down the ridge unscathed” (Goldstein). Not many people would risk their life for another but when he was unarmed and didn’t just save one person he saved dozens of lives and like said previously, he wasn't and didn’t care about being in cover, all he cared about was saving everyone that he saw on the battlefield. This really showed how much he cared for others and how he didn’t want anyone to get hurt. According to the New York Times, Desmond Doss was credited saving 50 of his fellow soldiers.
