In the article, “Shattered Lives” by Kristin Lewis, Dania faces many challenges. One challenge that she faced was that she was part of a war and had to leave all of the things she loved behind. On page 6 the author states “They faced a devastating choice: Stay and risk death, or leave everything behind…” Another piece of text evidence is “ In september, their choice became clear. They fled.”

In the book, Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich, the reader becomes emotionally involved with the lives all of the characters. The audience gets pulled into the dangerous life of card counting and learns about each character along the way. It is apparent that Kevin struggles to find a balance between his responsibilities in the real world and a fantasy life in Vegas. He is in a constant battle between personal gain and the yearning for his father 's approval.
A conscience is known as an inner feeling or voice that acts as a guideline for the morality of one’s behaviour. In Lorna Dueck’s “Why conscience (or lack of it) is in the news”, she portrays the purpose of a conscience in an individual’s decisions and actions. Dueck questions individual’s conduct then provides solutions to achieve a better world. She includes other sources to strengthen her argument on how one’s conscience reflects their behaviour. As well, Dueck uses a logical perspective to convince the audience the importance of a morally shaped conscience.
Social Imagination is a sociological concept that was introduced by American sociologist C. Wright Mills In 1959. In the book The Real World: An Introduction To Sociology, fifth Edition by Kerry Ferris and Jill Stein. It states “the ability to understand the intersection between biography and history, or the interplay of self and the world; this is sociology’s task and it’s promise.” (Mills 1959) (PG 13) It means to associate biography (what is happening in our every day life experience) with history (the social environment around us).
In the book Renegades by Marissa Meyer, many things happen throughout the book that many will find interesting. This story follows two main characters, Adrian Everhart and Nova Artino/Mclain. There is also a Council that is made of the best superheroes or Renegades, all around the city that this book takes place in and the son of the top two Council members is Adrian Everhart with their leadership skills and the ability to make whatever he draws come to life. There are also villains in this world of heroes called the Anarchists and within these villains is the niece of the formerly ruler of Gatlon City during the Age of Anarchy.
Greg Graffin’s Anarchy in the Tenth Grade represents the in-group theory presented by Gordon Allport. The in-group theory proposes that people belong to cliques, some by choice and others by chance, and society affects or has influences on these in-groups through equal out-groups. Mr. Graffin explains how it feels to be a new kid in a new school and how he became a punker. Mr. Graffin explains his endeavours through the in-group “punk” and also expounds on how different out-groups react to his in-group.
What do i and the author think about gang problems? Many gangs live in major cities because the criminals don’t want to get caught by the police so they go where there is a lot of people. In the paragraph it says “ Guns control efforts in chicago or any other major city are doomed because gangs represent organized crime network.” and it also says “ as many as 80% of homicides were gang related” (Daniel Greenfield) In major cities there is a lot of homicides that were related to gangs.
“The process of learning to think about gender in an adult fashion is one prerequisite to becoming a full member of society” [Devor 416]. Educational, cultural and reflective are three words to describe “Becoming Members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender” by Aaron H. Devor from Rereading America. Devor breaks down the theory of gender role origins on how men and women have been categorized to follow a set of guidelines created not by a patriarchy, but instead on social foundation that is their society. The topic of gender roles within our society and our culture’s view of gender directly correlates to Cohen’s monster thesis number one in his article, “Monster Culture (Seven Theses)”. Cohen states that, “a monster signifies something other than itself”
We always remember a person for the good deeds and this is what makes a person great! If you take a look at the history, then you may found many examples of great such personality, who has gone to extents to help others. Now, many would say they do such things for fame or have personal motives to fulfill, but this is not necessary. You may spot a great person just by looking at the great deeds
Why Our Society is Closer to the World State In the novel Brave New world, Aldous Huxley introduces the world to a dystopian future where people are willingly controlled by the government. Brave New World implies that by giving the people easy access to carnal pleasures e.g sex, and drugs the populace becomes complacent and they will do whatever is asked of them giving into the fear that the things that make them feel good will be taken away. Our society in 2017 is closer to the world state in Brave New World because of the mindless ‘feel good’ media that is present, tendency for casual sex and the increased use of recreational drugs. People in the world state are fully conditioned to not feel emotions such as anger, sadness, or loneliness, only to be euphoric and happy.
In the movie, Philadelphia, psychologists are able to apply: attribution theory, self-verification theory, social identity theory, cognitive dissonance, and drive theory to explain the behavior of some people. The attribution theory explains the cause of someone’s behavior by associating it to their personality or situation. In the movie, it is applied when Andrew is fired. The law firm claimed that they fired Andrew because of his incompetence, which is a fundamental attribution error because they were blaming him for the reason they fired him.
The sociological imagination refers to Mills notion on how social forces can influence an individual. He refers to it as an ability to see situations in a broader social spectrum and see how interactions can influence an individual and situations. It is important in terms of studying society because it is a way to help us see things not how they appear to be on a surface elements but through an alternative perspective. The differences between micro and macrosociology is that micro sociology studies people at an interpersonal way, such as face to face interactions while macro sociology studies people on a much larger scale by looking at the bigger picture. A societal issue that can be studied using both perspectives would be divorce.
A role model is suppose to inspire a individual to become more, and a child that grows up with very little needs a hero to guide them to achieve something.
Many people have a person that they look up to and who encourages them. It 's someone who I think doesn 't give up and gets back up when they fall down, who has an impact to other people around them and they work for what they have earned. A person that is a role model to me is a man named Kobe Bryant. He is a basketball player that accomplished many things in his career. He was also born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Biography Today 44).
