During school, preschoolers daily schedule should involve them spending time playing in learning centers. The learning areas need to be separate, which will permit the children to have space and choice of several play options. There should be enough choices in the room for each child to have several options. More so, play is enriched, when the teacher makes choices clear. Also, separating the learning centers allows free movement. In order to be a developmentally appropriate environment for preschoolers, the environment for preschoolers, cognitive, language, and literacy development should contain play. Exposure to print in the environment is the way that preschoolers can learn about print. They need to be introduced to how print is used. As preschoolers learn to read, they first must understand letters are symbols that represent a sound. Teaching the letters and sounds in the children name is a good starting point in developing knowledge in letters and words. Preschoolers need to learn that the purpose of letters and their sounds is to create words and that words transfer information and allow us to communicate. Oral communication is important for preschoolers. All good classroom talks help children expand their vocabularies. Also, the teacher should have individual conversations with children. Reading books to preschooler plays a major part in their learning process. Repeated reading of the children’s favorite books will reinforce the language of the text. The teacher should share books of all kinds. Give the children the opportunity to read out loud because they enjoy reading out loud to their peers. Preschoolers need to see print daily in a meaningful way around them. In the classroom, items should be labeled, the children personal areas should be labeled with their names, learning centers, helper charts, and boxes of materials.
