How would you feel if you were stranded in the middle of the ocean with little food and water? Not only being in the middle of the ocean but with an untamed bengal tiger in the same situation as you. The book Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about is the story of a young man who survives a disastrous shipwreck and has to survive months in a lifeboat accompanied with a large Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The book first covers Pi’s childhood; Pi’s family owns and runs their own zoo in their hometown in India. His father wants people to be aware of the true wild nature of animals and to never treat them as people. Soon Pi’s father sees that his son is not wary towards wild animals. This book has many exciting and intense moments that will really quench your thirst for excitement. Things get really interesting on page 145 Pi said, “Thank God I’ve found you. What is happening? There is water at the bottom of the ship. I am worried about my family. I can’t get to the level where the cabins are. Is this normal? Do you think--” He was interrupted by one of the crew men thrusting a life jacket into Pi’s arms then moments later being thrown overboard. Pi landed on the lifeboat luckily unharmed, simultaneously had animals leaping off the ship attempting to land on the lifeboat. The lifeboat was released into the water; this shows the intensity of the book and the plot unfolding. Another exciting event is in page 147 “I saw the triangle slicing through the water fifteen feet away. It was a shark’s fin. An awful tingle, went up and down my …show more content…

The one thing that really helped Pi’s situation was the survival guide book that gave very useful tips about surviving in the sea. On page 285 it says, “My cup arrived at the nick of time. At the second that I was in position at the base of his tail, Richard Parker’s anus distended, and out of it, like a bubble-gum balloon came a black sphere of excrement.” Ok so first of all ew and second of all this was a very interesting part of the novel when Pi literally tries eating cat poop… Later in the novel you can see that Pi is taking a liking to the sharks that are around him because on page 290, “ Otherwise, I grew quite fond of shark. They were like curmudgeonly old friends who never admit that they liked me yet came around to see me all the time.” I found quite weird but interesting how Pi befriended the sharks. I found this similar to how some animals environments that we took over the animals aren’t really afraid to walk up to us or feel
