Crime and deviance can be found in all cultures in society. It comes in many degrees, and affects us all differently. As the years go by, crime rates have increased, and criminals are becoming craftier. Crime and deviance often occurs due to desperation, conflict, dare, and rebellion. These crimes are often controversial, and spark media and political debate. This causes crimes to be missed or even missed tried. If the government does not effectively change its policies soon more damage will occur. It doesn 't matter whether it 's local or global damage; crime and deviance, will always have a pejorative effect on our society. Robert Merton created a typology for deviant behavior. Merton’s basis for this typology was that a person 's motivations or his or her adherence to cultural goals, and a person 's belief in how to attain his or her goals. His typology is known as The Modes of Adaption. Merton 's types of adaptation are conformity, innovation, acceptance, retreatism, and rebellion. There are multiples examples in life on how we used the modes of adaption without even realizing it. For example, every year in school we are given a day off that we can freely choose. However, "we"(the student body) are never actually involved in the decision of the day off. The administration at my school decided that they would give us the last Monday in March off. They did this purposely to break up the month of March because it is considered to be one of the longest months for both teachers and students. We conformed to the school and let them keep the day in March. The conformity in the situation is that we followed the rules that were set by the school, and allowed for our behavior to reflect well on us. However, the student body, including some of the teachers, wanted a different day off from school. We were willing to give up our day in March and make a trade. We went through all the right people to try to get this to work, but to no surprise it didn 't work. So we had to get innovative. Crime and deviance are things that I 'll always be a part of our culture. No matter how far in the past you look you always find people who go against social norms. We may never know why people do the things that they do, but we do know is that if change doesn 't happen soon crime rates will only continue to increase. Research says that the human race has been getting smarter over the last few decades. If this is true more people will begin to get away with crimes. Crime and deviance is different for all people, all over the world, but it is how we unite together to stop these things from happening that are really show our character. These issues are meant to be taken seriously. With the more knowledge we have, we might just be able to help when it comes to crime
