Who would've thought Richard and Mildred Loving would experience trouble while they were married. In 1958, Sheriff R Garnet Brooks asked Richard Loving why he was in bed with a woman who was African American, known as Mildred Jeter, at the time it was illegal to have an interracial marriage. The story of Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving is similar to Romeo and Juliet because the relationship was opposed by officials which lead to making sacrifices. Like Romeo and Juliet, Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving experienced tragic consequences for being together and having love for each other which suggests that love requires sacrifice. It all began around 2 am on July 11, 1958. Mildred and Richard Loving were in bed when suddenly Sherriff R. Garret Brooks flashed his light on the bed of the Lovings and noticed that they were together. Mildred and Richard Loving had to sacrifice living comfortably in their home in Virginia because if not they would get put in prison for going against the law and marrying someone of another race.
