Diesel may cost a little more than gasoline but people get more from your money. With a diesel you can haul a lot more payload. In 2014, diesel vehicle sales soared thirteen percent over the previous year’s sales (Diesel vs. Gas : Which is the Better Fuel ?). Diesel fuel is more efficient than gasoline because they have great fuel economy and longevity, they have great resale value, and positive environmental factors.

Transportation is a massive industry. Forty percent of all oil use is driven by road transport (Engerer, Kunert 469). Diesel fuel is used for the majority of road transportation due to it having mileage advantage for long hauls A large reason for this is that diesel engines have more torque than gasoline engines and this allows them to transport with more force and mile advantage. Diesel engines offer the most significant amount of force for long haul transport (Diesel is Now Better Than Gas). Therefore, while Diesels do often cost more to maintain, businesses and owners are willing to pay the extra because it will save money in the long run (Diesel is Now Better Than Gas). Diesel engines do need maintenance on a regular basis or repairs can become expensive. However, if they are maintained then there is a savings for fuel cost. In the article “Diesel vs. Gas: Which is the Better Fuel?”, it said that “Diesel vehicles enjoy a mile per gallon advantage over their gas counterparts.” This proves that even if diesel is more expensive than gas, they can go farther so the cost evens out. Surprisingly, diesel was actually cheaper than gasoline ten years ago (Diesel vs. Gas Which is the Better Fuel?).
