Traditionalism is the theory that all moral and religious truth comes from divine revelation passed on by tradition, human reason being incapable of attaining it (The Significance). Traditionalist had much respect for their culture and religious values. They base how to live their life on these values. They did not embrace change or new ideas. Throughout the 20’s, many challenges in society arose for traditionalists.
The life of someone who practices Judaism cannot be assumed because there are so many differences between each type of Judaism. There is both segregationist Judaism and integrationist Judaism, and even within those two there are different groups. But, integrationist and segregationists are the two big differences within Judaism. There are some major key differences between segregationist Judaism and integrationist Judaism. When it comes to segregationists they are often considered either Hasidic or Yeshiva.
They use their own sensibility in order to decide what practices of their religion they would like to remain relevant and true. These reform Jews believe that breaking the normal routine from time to time helps on grow into their true self, which sometimes means changing the fundamental ways in which the religion is practiced. Reform Judaism is the largest form of Judaism in the United States that exists
There are many beliefs in the Jehovah’s Witness religion that are similar to Orthodox Christian Beliefs and then there are some that are very different. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in one God, who is the authority of the bible and they also believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which are the same as Orthodox Christians. But there are many things that are quite different about their beliefs such as they don’t believe in hell and the trinity. Jehovah’s Witnesses strongly believe in the end of the world or in the apocalypse.
For the Jewish people, the Torah or law is a precious gift given by God to all generations. Thus, to
The Torah is a collection of five books from the Hebrew Bible, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The Torah has been given many names; nonetheless to the Jewish people the Torah is scared and very well cared for. It is forbidden to touch the Torah; therefore a metal pointer is used to follow when reading it. Unlike many other ancient religions whose origins are derived from myths of creation, the Jewish scribes came together with historians to gain an accurate representation of the myths resulting in the narratives of ancient Judaism known today.
In the early to mid-nineteenth century, major cultural movements took place in the United States. New religious movements can be linked to reform movements. Religious changes focused on family life. They also liberated the lives and freedom of women. Reformers were more concerned about controlling society.
The “followers of the scriptures” also known as the Karaite Jews are one of the oldest sects/forms of non-Rabbinic Judaism present in the world today. Karaites are most distinct for their differences between the Rabbinical Jews; the main difference being the belief that all of the commandments handed down to Moses by God were recorded in the written Torah without any extra input like the “Oral Law” or extra commentaries and interpretations. Karaite Jews do not believe the written collections of the oral tradition in the Midrash or Talmud is divinely authoritative. The Hebrew word “אקר” or “qara” out of the name “Karaites” means “read” which follows their idea of reading the bible instead of just following traditions (Lichaa).
The fundamental difference between Reform and Orthodox Jews is their interpretation of how to practice the religion. The Orthodox Jews are very traditional. They observe strict dietary laws, worship on the Sabbath day, and dress in distinct black suits with black hats. The women also dress in a conservative fashion, and the synagogues where they worship are segregated. Reform Judaism is very different.
The sermon on the mount found in the book of Matthew shows this when Jesus gives several examples of “you have heard it said/ but I tell you”. In those cases, Jesus is not getting rid of the law from the Torah, but is rather adding to it. An example of this is when the commandment to not murder is extended to hating your neighbour and therefore hatred is condemned. It was also a radical idea that salvation could apply not only to the Jews but also to the Gentiles and that circumcision was not necessary to enter the kingdom of
With Christianity, the development of the Bible was a result of oral tradition and stories being passed on by generations and the guidance of the Apostles by the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, The Ten Commandments were also revealed to Moses by God and led to the essential rules within Christianity. Hinduism has expanded with more sacred texts ever since the introduction of the Vedas. Therefore, a new branch of Hinduism emerged and is now known as Buddhism. One of the two similarities between the two religions is Symbolism. Moreover, the two religions figured out the how to avoid death. On the other hand, a difference between Hinduism and Buddhism is the fundamental ideology. Western religion is external in the sense that things are preached to you by a preacher, a way of translating scripture to fit the needs of the sermon. Eastern religion is internal the teachings are about mastering your inner self and how to find enlightenment within yourself. Western religion is more about control for selfish reasons, whereas Eastern religion is control of self to help others. If you look at it from that aspect it would make sense how the big three Christianity, Judaism and Islam are so wide spread, they are the fighting religions. The eastern religions that are more focused on growing self to help community, the ones that did not fight their way into the hearts of the world are not near as
There are a few clear differences in the liturgies that can be seen in this video. The first one being the clothes that the priests and the participants in the liturgies wear. During the Orthodox liturgy, the priest and the presiders were wearing ornate robes or suits. During the liturgy in Los Angeles, the priests wore simpler robes and the presiders were dressed pretty casually. Another difference between the two liturgies was the amount of contact with the altar that the priests had.
