The two stories of “Antigone” and of “The Letter from Birmingham Jail” both have the main theme of Civil Disobedience. This is the emphasis on God’s law over Mans law, and both stories show this in different ways. However, one story is clearly better than the other. In “Antigone”, Creon has ordered that Eteocles, Antigone’s brother be buried with all the formal rites, but that Polynices, the other brother, be left unburied on the streets. Antigone thinks that this is unfair and inhumane, so she secretly does all the rites and “buries him”.
Stories today stories from thousands of years ago still have the same meaning and conflicts today. I will be comparing Antigone and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. I will compare the motives, outcomes, themes, and even myself to these two stories. The motives in Return of the Jedi and Antigone are very similar to each other.
Though, there lies an element of similarity between the two regarding the theory of family. Synergism in one’s household is of prime importance: Antigone had the courage to go in consort with her ethical predisposition to achieve what she believed was an obligation of the family when she desired to provide her departed brother a suitable burial. She was reprimanded and casted away by the Ruler, which in relation was her own uncle. She acknowledged to the misconduct and felt no repentance for the same.
“To wreck itself; the worst that can befall/ Is but to die an honorable death” Antigone by Sophocles a phenomenal example of someone who did what she believed was right while she was left unattended with her many hardships that she had to face. “If We Must Die” by Claude McKay is about the struggle of the black men and women in the United States and retaliating even though they know they may not win. “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley is about Henley and his fight against tuberculosis and his endeavor with accepting his amputation and his overcoming the disease. “If We Must Die” is more closely related to Antigone than “Invictus”. This statement is concordant with how the significance and the meaning of “If We Must Die” is more analogous to Antigone than “Invictus”.
Antigone and her father Oedipus are very alike and different in a few ways. The things that occur to them both lead up to their deaths. For instance, Antigone defies the leader Creon which results in her death. Also, Oedipus and his wife Jocasta ignore the gods which causes Oedipus’s long life of suffering.
Two marbles in Different Piles Because of the ways that characters are developed in both Antigone and “The Game,” they are very similar, yet different, seen throughout the whole plays. To start, the two plays are alike with their dramatic point of view, however the feelings and directions in Antigone are almost non-existent,especially evident during the tensest moments of both play. In Antigone this idea is seen during the finale of the tragedy when Haimon kills himself, with Haimon’s death being narrated as,“ 'He said not a word, Staring— And suddenly drew his sword And lunged. Creon shrank back, the blade missed; and the boy, Desperate against himself, drove it...
Ismene and Dede are very similar and both have similar goals in mind, however the final outcome of their actions determines who more effectively achieves their goal. The fact that Ismene completely exits the play and Antigone's life while Dede becomes an influential figure, represents how Dede is more successful. Dede’s contribution to her sister’s reputations and stories, represent a great success for her, especially since she did not contribute to the revolution during the time her sisters were alive. If Dede decided to completely leave the life and revolution of her sisters, she would have become an irrelevant character, like Ismene. Instead Dede proudly dedicated a museum and statue to her sisters.
Another example of a problem caused by Antigone’s father is that Antigone believes she needs to disobey the orders of the new king and bury one of her brothers. If Oedipus had not been exiled for incest and had remained as king, Antigone’s brothers would not have killed each other in a fight for the throne and Antigone would not need to go against social norms to fight for
The characters in Agamemnon and Antigone appear to be controlled by their own fates determined by the Gods; mere puppets on strings. Almost everything they do seems to lead to their ultimate demise and tragedy. If this is the case, then do they have any type of control over their own lives? Even when it seems they make a choice on their own, it still leads them to the same place: death.
In both The Last Days of Socrates and Antigone, the protagonists and antagonists act with determination to achieve what they believe is just. Both parties inflict harm to others or even to themselves, but this does not discourage them because they claim it is for a greater cause. Many of the characters in both works have just and righteous intentions, but they allow emotions cloud their judgment. If more time had been taken to think clearly and impartially, much of the strife that happened could have been avoided. Socrates, Antigone, and Creon made their decisions with the ideal goal of justice in mind, but they allowed emotion to corrupt the good intent behind their actions.
` In May of 1977, Star Wars: A New Hope was released with overwhelmingly positive reviews and marking a new era in cinema. The writer and director of the film, George Lucas, decided to expand upon the Star Wars universe in 1999 by making Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, with a story that took place before the original film’s story. This movie was made with advanced equipment and cutting-edge CGI (for 1999), nonetheless, the movie was panned by critics and enraged an entire generation of moviegoers. The answer to why this happened lies in the differences between the two films: use of special effects, construction of characters, and complexity of plot. “A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story.
Even if someone had a close relative or friend fight against them they would most likely still want their soul to rest peacefully. Antigone didn’t care about any law, if it meant letting her own brother’s soul go to rest she didn’t hesitate for a second. That’s not always the case, Polyneices was a relative of Creon and Creon wanted his corpse to rot in the desert. Nobody wants their opposition to die peacefully. Creon acted as though Polyneices the worst person in the entire world.
compare to Star Wars the Revenge of the Sith sins especially if you account for the sins in the other prequel movies that cause these sins. How do these animated effects change these movies? For RoboCop it was able to bring RoboCop and ED-209 to life but for Star Wars it was much more as characters, objects, creatures and most of the environment only exist through these special effects. What did it take to make this movie happen (both types)? For RoboCop it took a lot of testing to make this stuff seems realistic like the brutal shooting scene of Murphy getting shot took the use of a puppet and many prosthetics to make it look real.
The origin of each series has a different story. Star Wars is a movie series said to belong to a subgenre of science fiction called “space opera” which was inspired by work like Beowulf , King
Ismene chose her loyalty and it was to her family at the end of the day, although Antigone may have believed that he sister chose to be loyal to the
