There were many differences between the Low Country and Back Country of South Carolina before, during, and after the Revolutionary War. Many of the differences are very plain to see while others were not as easy to pick out. The people in the two regions of South Carolina led very different lifestyles and often did not always see eye-to-eye. Some of the wealthiest citizens in South Carolina lived in the Low Country. Usually the very wealthy were in families of rice and indigo planters. Therefore, many of the large houses in the Low Country, usually plantation houses, were built very tall and many of the outside features were symmetrical.
