In 2014, Neil Koenigsberg made a movie version of Lois Lowry’s novel, “The Giver.” The movie and the book are set in a utopian society. Both version tell a story of a boy name Jonas that is chosen for Receiver of Memory. However, the movie is different from the book because the characters, the plot, and the settings. Reading and watching the movie of “The Giver” definitely have their own similarities and differences. In the beginning, the characters’ ages is a big difference. For example, Jonas was originally 12 years old in the book but in the movie he is 19 years old. Another difference was the jobs. The book had stated that Fiona was working at the House of Old and Asher was Assistant of Director of Recreation. In the movie, Fiona was a nurture and Asher was a drone-pilot. Even Gabriel has a difference. He had a mark on his wrist that was a sign of that he can receive memories. Although the book and the movie had differences there are similarities. In the book, Jonas has kept the terrible memories to himself and never express them. In the movie, he had shown all the things he learns, like sledding, to his friends or siblings.
