In a more global society where travel and immigration is more accessible to the common man, like Uncle Alex, and the exchange of ideas are simply a few clicks away, it can be inferred that many cultures throughout the world influence one another. Culture as a whole is an entity that surrounds individuals in the environment in which they live in, much like how a solvent surrounds its solute. Like the dissolved solute of a solution, people may appear to be smaller portions of a larger surrounding but they are nevertheless still present and still dictate the makeup of a solution. Both people and cultures transcend their influence throughout the world by moving from one area to another much like a solute and a solvent move from one area to another in the process of diffusion and osmosis.

Various perspectives from Uncle Alex’s culture can still meander into the mainstream through social media, news outlets, and pop culture. Here, his culture comes to the people instead of him coming to a new culture through immigration. This process is similar to the process of osmosis since it is the solvent, the environment surrounding the solute, which is being moved from an area of higher concentration to that of a lower concentration. Like the diffusion of people and the perspectives they provide, the osmosis of the culture itself is to also seek homeostasis. With different methods of problem solving, such as communism and capitalism in the debate of a more efficient economic structure, there is a state permeation of ideals across boundaries, or membranes, of nations where it is not the just the people’s perspectives being exchanges but much rather the very foundations of various societies being exchanged in the goal of
