I very excited to have the opportunity to work in collaboration with a fellow classmate, on a research project focused on students cultural relationships with substance use. Using a list of questions predetermined by our field guide (Leslie Comrie) we will interview people who have previously host a Dinner Basket Conversation, that focused on students and their relationships with substance use. The objective of the project is to use the Most Significant Change Technique (MSC) as a means of evaluation. We will be compiling peoples stories about any significant changes they experienced after their involvement in a Dinner Basket. Hosting a Dinner Basket as well as, the interview process will give me the tools to examine the who, what , where process. "Epidemiology is defined as "the study of the occurrence and distribution of health related states or events in specified populations, including the study of the determinants influencing such states, and the application of this knowledge to control the health problem" (Stamler & Yui, 2012 p. 139). Gathering insight into the culture of substance use at Selkirk College is key, in my opinion if we are working towards a health campus. I am interested in beginning to examine the nature and the extent of use along with the prevalence and patterns. How do the social determinates of health effect the epidemiology of substance use and students? I am intrigued by human behaviour and what causes a person to make the choices they make. When considering the epidemiology of college students and substance use, we need to remember that it is possible to have healthy relationships with substances. When reviewing the data it will be thought-provoking to compare students who describe having a healthy relationship with substances to those who express having an unhealthy relationship. Together my classmate and I will seek to facilitate meaningful conversations surrounding students beliefs, attitudes and values that shape the culture of substance use at Selkirk College. While we want to demonstrate good leadership skills, during the conversation it is also important for us as leaders to remember to create a safe, inclusive environment that will allow everyone to feel welcomed . The participants of this dinner will be our fellow classmates, they should already be cognizant of what makes up a safe sharing environment, however, demonstrating good leadership we will give a gentle reminder of confidentiality , respect and
