` The movie “Radio” is based on a true story about Robert Kennedy. Robert Kennedy is played by Cuba Gooding Jr. in the movies. The movie takes place around the 1960’s. Radio suffers from a mental disability that has caused him to have trouble speaking and learning problems. Radio lives with his mother in South Carolina and is somewhat hidden from society because of his disability. Radio got his name from the players and coach at the local high school (Hanna), because he always carried his radio with him. Radio carried his radio because he enjoyed music. He used to push a grocery cart around the city picking up whatever he could to put in it. Radio’s mom was very protective of him and wasn’t sure of his relationship with coach and her son. Coach Harold eventually convinced her that he wanted to help Radio. Coach Harold was able to obtain the help of his family and football team to help Radio, in improving his skills socially and academically. The people in the town were very resistant in having radio at the school and they also felt that the Coach was spending too much time with him. Eventually, because of Coach Harold’s respect from the students and towns’ people he was able to convince them to allow Radio to enroll as a student at the school and to also work as an assistant trainer for the football team. Coach Harold was able to be a mentor to Radio as well as a teacher helping him to develop skills academically, socially and mentally. The disability that Radio had was Brain Damage that was caused by a car accident at the age of 5. The characteristic of brain damage are thinking, reasoning, understanding words, remembering things, focusing, problems solving, abstract thinking, talking, behavior, walking and other physical activities, seeing, hearing and learning problems.
