An activity can be anything we do from the moment we get up in the morning to when we go to bed at night, for example, personal care tasks, eating a meal and spending time with others. Supporting a person with dementia to remain active is not just about ‘a bit of fun’ or an added extra – it is essential to their health and wellbeing. Involving individuals with Dementia in a range of activities is very important because the individual should gain satisfaction and achievement. 3.2: Describe how the sensory impairment of an individual with Dementia may affect their communication skills. An individual with Dementia and a sensory impairment will struggle to communicate their needs. For example, an individual who’s Dementia has progressed may find it difficult to ask for the radio to be turned on. They may feel extremely frustrated because perhaps they have a visual impairment so cannot point to the radio
