Curriculum is the root of entire educational process without curriculum we cannot consider any educational effort. The Curriculum is the underlying basis of teaching and learning or a pathway towards an educational goal. A curriculum can be defined as a plan for action or a written document that includes strategies for achieving desired goals or ends. (Tyler, 1949). It is also process of organizing the tasks of teaching and determining content, learning resources, and classroom procedures. When this curriculum document it was plan as policy that guide South African teachers when delivering the curriculum into schools, CAPS is not a curriculum but it is “a single, comprehensive, and concise policy document, which has replaced the Subject and Learning Area Statements, Learning Programme Guidelines and Subject Assessment Guidelines for all the subjects listed in the National Curriculum Statement Grades R - 12.”(Department of basic education, 2010, p.1). This curriculum document is divided into four sub-sections and this sections may be drawn from Tyler model of developing a curriculum in a rational and a logical way and it answers his key questions of curriculum development. The CAPS documents states the educational purpose on aims and objectives of the curriculum, educational experiences are stated in the section of content and teaching plan as well on what the teaching is going to be organized and lastly it gives on how the teacher will know whether objectives are attained by using the assessment section that guide teachers on how they are going to assess to get whether objectives were achieved or not.
