Introduction

Capstone project gives me an opportunity to integrate the three courses which I have been so far taught during the immediate past three blocks of BSN-MSN programme which I am running with Texila American University namely; Health Education (block 4), Nursing Informatics (block 5) and Ethical Issues in Nursing (block 6).

The study of block 4 – Health education which is any combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitude. According to Vijaya (2016), nursing informatics is the application of computer science and information science to nursing. It promotes the generation, management and processing of relevant data in order to use information and develop knowledge that supports nursing in all practice domains. Nurses need to develop competencies in informatics. Informatics enables nurses to use information and communications technologies (ICT) in the collection of data, use of information, and generation of knowledge to support nursing practice. Assessment of the knowledge and use of ICT in teaching and learning among teachers and students is very appropriate for this blocks capstone project because it conforms to the goal of nursing informatics which is to improve the health of populations, communities, families and individuals by optimizing information management and communication. This includes the use of technology in the direct provision of care, in establishing effective administrative systems managing and delivering educational experiences, supporting lifelong learning and supporting nursing

Ethics is a set of moral principles and a code for behavior that govern and individuals’ actions with other individuals and within society. It is the stands of conduct that grows out of one’s understanding of right and wrong (Susila, 2016). The lessons in this block taught me the need to work with ethical committee when carrying out a research in an institution because they are the one saddled with the responsibility of reviewing the proposals before start of the study as well as monitor the research throughout the study until and after completion of the study through appropriate well documented procedures. They will also examine compliance with regulatory requirements, applicable guidelines and laws such the issue of non-malfeasance, confidentiality, autonomy of the subjects etc. these are things involved in carrying out this capstone
