There are so many different approaches and methods that go into the practice of second language teaching. But the teacher and the learner will think about which method is the best decision. This paper observes of the three methods which are the Grammar-Translation Method, Audio-lingual method, and Total Physical Responses method. The majority of research on methods will describe briefly about the merits and demerits as well as principle. The Grammar-Translation Method (GTM), the method which is the oldest method for studying a foreign language such as Latin& Greek, was used during the Early 16th to 17th century. (3) The structures of the foreign language are best learnt when compared and contrasted with those of the mother tongue. In terms of Advantages of GTM, it develops student’s reading and writing skills of target language specifically grammar and vocabulary. And the GMT does not require the teacher to speak fluently in the target language. Because the students are given explanations of grammatical rules of target language in native language hence communication does not need to be issued between the teacher and the students. The role of the teacher is central, which means easy to plan lesson and control the students. As for the Drawbacks of GTM, speaking, listening, and pronunciation are neglected since students do not have any opportunity to speak in any activities. Advantages of TPR method, is an excellent way to build new vocabulary. Also Student’s listening comprehension is developed and leads to a high degree of motivation. The Participation of students are promoted by fun and enjoyable TPR practice. This method is suitable for any class size, and mixed abilities classes. In terms of the Drawbacks of TPR method, this method is more suitable for beginners than higher levels. The kind of activities lead some students to feel unconventional who are reluctant to participate. Also it is easy to lose focus and overuse activities by both teachers and students. The TPR Method is somewhat limited within original expression of ideas. Owing to everything cannot be explained by actions, pictures and objects. Learning language means not just improving reading and writing skills by memorizing grammar as GTM and not just developing speaking and listening skills by practicing dialogue and pattern as ALM. It is acquiring certain skills and comprehension of language and background. Hence, there is nothing to say which one is the ‘right’ answer about what is the best method for the teacher and student. Each method has strengths and weakness, as the methods aims are also different.
