In one way or the other, schools are like prisons (whichever you prefer.) However, I don’t mean it in the teenage definition, where pre-pubescent kids complain about the lack of taste in their lunch food or the endless hours with rowdy figures in their cell. I mean it in the way that, sometimes, school can be vile with not enough space or education that you desire. That’s the key. Education. We’re always competing for who has the better education, for who ranks higher in English, Math, and Science, and for who has the best programs. However, even if we do all this competing, we still have a debate not yet settled: Should the government prohibit foreign students from attending college here? Ironic. When you look at colleges, you look for cost of tuition, majors, location, and last but not least, diversity. Did you know that international students make up only 4 percent of university students in the U.S? Crazy, right? That’s .4 out of 10 and .04 out of 1000. We are only educating four percent of our future overseas leaders. Foreign students could have the chance for a higher education and they bring diversity to this country’s universities. It’s no secret that this country’s in debt. It’s no secret that college is expensive. So, it should be no secret that if we have the chance to make more money, we should probably take it. The U.S does not have to pay for foreign students to study here, but instead these students pay three times as more as in-state students on their own. This may not seem like a lot, but our four percent of university foreign students let the US make 9 billion dollars. Not million, but billion. Remember, studying overseas, does not technically mean also living overseas. You see, there are three different types of visas. The F1 visa allows you to stay 6 months for academics. The J1 visa allows you stay 12 months for practical training. Finally, the M1 allows you to stay up to 18 months for no academics. Studying overseas is not permanent but instead takes visas.
