The two chosen poems, ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’ and ‘and death shall have no dominion’ are poems written by one of the most famous poets, Thomas Dylan. Both poem are written during the period from 1914 - 1953. The overall theme of these two poems are written about death. However, There is a clear difference between them. The author took two different perspectives of death for these two poem. Unlike most poems during that period of time which emphasize the fear and darkness of death. Rather the poem - ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’ encourages us to live and never stop fighting and the poem- “And Death Shall have No Dominion” celebrates the immortality of our human spirits. The poem “Do not go gentle into that good night” is written from the perspective of a really sad son. It is telling the readers about the author’s will of letting his father continue to fight against death. The theme of this poem is about the struggle of living, even if its means suffering. This poem can be seen as a monologue in which only the speaker, in this case, Thomas is trying to communicate to his readers about his thoughts and feelings towards death. The line “do not go gentle into that good night” has repeated several times in the poem, and it points out the idea of continue fight death and never give up. The setting of this poem is quite uncertain. However, according to the tone and the theme, it is indicating that it took place in somewhere that the author is facing life and death. As Thomas’s father is on the edge of dying and he is persuading him to fight against death. The phrases “wise men, good men, wild man and grave man” appears in the poem.
