Do you think the Philae mission is important to researchers? A probe called the Philae Lander was the first spacecraft to set down on a comet. In passage 1, “A Success in Space” by Camron Keady says the Philae lander’s job is to take pictures of the comet and dig up samples from the comet’s surface. In passage 2, “Comet probe may shed light on Earth’s past” by Ashley Yeager says the Philae lander has a mothership that landed on a comet 310 million miles away from Earth. The Philae mission was important for researchers because the lander traveled to the surface and performed a variety of scientific experiments, the mission could give valuable information for scientists to explain solar systems origin, and comets can help scientists learn more about the comet's landscape. First, the Philae lander obtained information for scientists to experiment with. Passage 1 states, "A Success in Space" by Camron Keady, “The Philae lander will travel the surface of 67P and conduct a variety of scientific experiments. It could reveal several secrets about the makeup of the comet, the formation of our solar system, and even the origins of life.” This evidence shows that the Philae mission had a wide range of scientific studies so it gave scientists more information about comets because it revealed secrets that were …show more content…

In passage 1 states, “A Success in Space" by Cameron Keady, “The Philae lander is about the size of a washing machine. It dropped from the Rosetta spacecraft and landed on the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko, also known as the 67P. This mission could give researchers valuable information about the origins of our solar system and how it evolved.” This evidence tells us that the Rosetta spacecraft landed on 67P because scientists needed it so they could research more about comets. Above all, the mission to 67P could give scientists knowledge they were unaware
