Does Mycelium Help Itself

174 Words1 Pages
Mycelium is a group of hypha that can work with a plant to help itself and the plant survive. For starters, hypha(e) is a white thread and tube like element located inside the mycelium within a fungus. Hypha is composed of chitin which makes the hypha strong. The hypha need to be strong because this is how the hypha collect scarce water and nutrients for a plant. Additionally, something that will nourish a living object is a nutrient. All plants need nutrients to survive. Mycelium collects nutrients for the plant through the hyphae when the nutrients are scarce and delivers it to the plant. Furthermore, a complicated way in which plants use carbon dioxide, water, and non-natural salts to make plant food/energy for themselves is called photosynthesis.
