Ever since the entry of the newcomer pet food brand, Blue Buffalo, the stand of giants in this field have become shaky. Even during the time when I didn't have a pet, the only brand of dog food that I knew was Pedigree. Thanks to their catchy advertisements and their ubiquitous presence in every shopping market, once upon a time, ‘dog food was Pedigree and Pedigree was dog food'.
But recently Blue Buffalo introduced a comparison test to compare Blue Buffalo Dog Food vs. Pedigree along with a few other leading brands. The aim was to show how the other brands were deficient in satisfying the comparison criteria. And the results were stunning.
Pedigree seemed to fail in all 5 criteria! They were "Contains meat as a primary ingredient", "Contains no wheat, corn or soy", "No Artificial flavors", "No by-products or preservatives", "Includes fruits and vegetables", "Contains Lifesource bits"(frozen nutrients and anti-oxidants). Looking at the overtly optimistic results, all I could do is just think that it was an attempt to publicly damage the image of top brands like Pedigree. But only with further research I realized that they were just highlighting a truth.
