Have you ever wondered the effects that domestic violence in the media has on its viewers? Although we may not realize it, domestic violence has a big effect on its viewers which can be a good thing as well as a bad thing.
The first thing I would like to talk about in my speech is how domestic violence in the media influences domestic violence in the home.
Since we see this kind of violence in the media so often it has be come significantly more popular for abuse to happen behind closed doors whether it's physically or emotionally. For example in the Show euphoria that came out in 2019 one of the main characters, Nate Jacobs physically and emotionally abused his girlfriend many times, but the media almost never talked about how bad something like that is and how that is actually a real issue in society today. Instead Nate Jacobs was praised for his looks and won the hearts of many fans despite his actions against females and his terrible personality. Not only do some men want to be like these abusers, because of the way they have been glamorized, but even some women crave a man like the characters in these shows as well. “These films endorse women and make young men think that women crave control and dominance in a relationship. To young women, these male leads seem glamorous and brooding and a challenge to be met rather than selfish, manipulative and dangerous men who will only bring them emotional and physical pain. Women may not recognize men like this as abusive, but instead they may think of them as masculine men who will be able to put them in their place which is what some women …show more content…

The next topic is the effect domestic violence in the media has on children. Younger children often have a hard time deciphering between what is right and what is wrong, so when they are constantly seeing this type of abuse on tv and no one is there to tell them that it is wrong it makes them think that this type of abuse is ok. “Extensive research evidence indicates that media violence can contribute to aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, nightmares and the fear of being harmed”. This type of exposure to children can have a big impact on their behavior and mental health
