On June 13, 1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found murdered outside of Browns condo. The police suspected OJ Simpson to have committed the crime seeing Mr. Simpson had attacked Ms. Brown previously. It was clear that Mr. Simpson committed the crime jet a jury of 10 women and 2 men found him not guilty (9 of the jurors were black, 2 white and 1 Hispanic).

This trial dealt with class, race and gender all at once. Make no mistake if OJ Simpson was not a wealthy man and could not afforded the defense her received the outcome of this trial would have been much different.

In the 90’s domestic violence was, a serious issue but one that was not taken serious. According to the FBI In 1992, 1,431 women were killed by their boyfriends or husbands. Yet when Mr. Simpson was arrested for beating Ms. Brown he was only ordered to complete 120 hours of community service, two years probation, fined $200 and ordered to donate $500 to a battered. Many experts at the time stated that although there were mostly women on the jury they were black women. Black people have been discriminated against and continue to be decimated and oppressed to this day. Black women at that time could not see past racism to really focus on sexism. Denise Cade a black attorney in Washington when interview by the NY Times stated that "The reason a black man may beat his wife is because he is facing racism on his job and racism in America. What is the reason a white man beats his wife? It 's certainly not because of oppression in America. We can understand what our black men feel. That 's why we don 't rally around those feminist people.” Race complicated things because black women could not relate to white women.
